The International Society of Technology in Education Performance Indicators
Rationale: ISTE has established a set of indicators to guide students and teachers in achieving competencies necessary to succeed and prosper in the new era. The creation of a portfolio, and specifically an eportfolio, is essential as both the process and the product of your education. The full description can be found here. Here is a summary of the standards that this Unit will give you experience using and how they are fulfilled:
1. Creativity and Innovation
Students demonstrate creative thinking, construct knowledge, and develop innovative products and processes
using technology.
The product students create is an enacted design, for example, lighting for a dance piece, demonstrating higher order thinking and creative skills.
2. Communication and Collaboration
Students use digital media and environments to communicate and work collaboratively, including at a distance,
to support individual learning and contribute to the learning of others.
Live streaming over the internet, basic video and photograph editing skills, and enactment of complicated theatrical productions, requiring team work and leadership skills.
3. Research and Information Fluency
Students apply digital tools to gather, evaluate, and use information.
In the process of ePortfolio artifact creation and reflection, these outcomes are experienced.
4. Critical Thinking, Problem Solving, and Decision Making
Students use critical thinking skills to plan and conduct research, manage projects, solve problems, and make
informed decisions using appropriate digital tools and resources.
The design, collaborative construction of the product and mastery of a variety of computer based applications demonstrate these outcomes.
5. Digital Citizenship
Students understand human, cultural, and societal issues related to technology and practice legal and ethical
behavior.
6. Technology Operations and Concepts
Students demonstrate a sound understanding of technology concepts, systems, and operations.
